The interaction between cognition and the environment on gait in older adults.
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death in older adults and stem from multiple risk factors including motor, cognitive, and environmental risk factors, but there is limited knowledge on the relationship between these risk factors. This F32 proposal will provide Dr. Katherine Hsieh with training in cognition, environmental constraints on gait, longitudinal data analysis, and clinical trials research to facilitate her transition into an independent falls prevention investigator. Results of this study will inform the development of future interventions for older adults by targeting multiple fall risk factors.
