SGK1 is a regulator of islet beta cell mass and secretory function

Description: The prevalence of obesity and diabetes mellitus in the United States places an enormous national burden on the health care system. The proposed studies address a critical need to understand the signal-specific regulatory strategies used to promote growth and control insulin secretion in the islet beta-cell population. The results of this project will expedite the development of novel and highly specific salutary approaches to improve metabolic health and reduce health care costs.
