The Impact of Individual- and Neighborhood-Level Social Connectedness on Mental Health in Black Adults

Description: This project will use data from the robust Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study to address how social connectedness contributes to reducing the risk of poor mental health outcomes among adults in the United States. Quantitative and qualitative findings are proposed to elucidate key psychosocial pathways and mechanisms relevant to the social experiences of adults, particularly those who reside in low-income urban neighborhoods. Results are anticipated to have broad translational importance for improving health among Americans and to catapult interventions to build and strengthen social connectedness in America.
