Particulate matter-induced changes in DNA methylome and transcriptome
Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: Particulate matter air pollution causes a global environmental health problem that causes 3.7 million premature deaths per year worldwide. Exposure to particulate matter causes changes in epigenetics (biological mechanisms that switch genes on and off), which play an important role in the development of disease. In this application, we will determine the pattern of epigenetic changes and gene expression induced by particulate matter in surrogate tissues and cells such as nose and blood cells and correlate these changes with those in target tissues such as lungs, heart and aorta.
