Hypothalamic Neurocircuit Remodeling to Treat Diabetes
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Accumulating evidence suggests that Type 2 Diabetes is fundamentally a disorder of hypothalamic brain circuits controlling glucose homeostasis. Aberrant hyperactivity in these circuits is consistently observed in multiple rodent diabetic models, and suppression of this hyperactivity ameliorates hyperglycemia. This project investigates the use of inhibitory interneuron transplantation to suppress aberrant hyperactivity within these hypothalamic circuits with the goal of a translational therapy that achieves sustained diabetes remission.
