Metformin Therapy for Ischemic Insult and Reperfusion Injury in Aging
Description: The size of heart attacks and patient survival even following successful current treatment is worse in elderly patients. Using mouse models of this problem, we will test a promising new application of a currently used drug to reduce heart injury during the heart attack. If successful, this new use of an approved drug could be fast-tracked toward clinical use.
