A global epidemiology of cognitive impairment and dementia due to Alzheimer's disease and related disorders: the COSMIC Collaboration
Description: COSMIC is an international consortium of population-based prospective longitudinal cohorts examining the risk and protective factors and biomarkers for cognitive decline and dementia in older individuals world-wide. From the time of its initial funding in 2017, COSMIC has developed into a consortium of 54 studies from 39 countries in six continents, with a combined sample size of 175,199, and an additional 25 studies in negotiation, potentially increasing the sample to 300,000, with several strategic collaborations. With its global reach, open sharing of data and diverse network of researchers, COSMIC is creating a truly global epidemiology of dementia that is needed to meet the ambitious goals of the 2017 World Health Assembly to address the global epidemic of dementia, and the hopes of people at risk of dementia everywhere.
