DNA-damage-induced transcription errors provide a constant stream of amyloid and prion-like proteins in human cells

Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE When our cells activate a gene, they make a disposable copy of it that can be used for various biological purposes. We will investigate whether mistakes are made when these copies are synthesized and determine how these mistakes affect human health. Ultimately, these experiments could provide new insight into the natural aging process and the origins of various human diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and cancer.
