Profile of cardiometabolic and immune/inflammatory markers in elderly people with osteosarcopenia and/or obesity
Description: The growth of the world population over 60 years of age and the projections for the coming decades represent a major challenge for public health, as non-infectious diseases are most prevalent in the elderly population with Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) being the most common among these people. Population aging is the most important non-modifiable risk factor for CVD, represents a major public health challenge and is often associated with other factors such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Obesity is a cardiovascular risk factor that continues to increase in the global population, especially after urbanization, when sedentary lifestyles and the consumption of processed foods increased. The concept of osteosarcopenia is new and involves a combination of osteoporosis and sarcopenia. It is multifactorial and associated with among other things, physical inactivity, obesity and poor nutritional status. The present study aims to investigate the concentration and epigenetic aspects of cardiometabolic and immunologic/inflammatory indicators closely related to aging, obesity and osteosarcopenia. It is a prospective, observational, cross-sectional and analytical study involving patients of both sexes (n= 496) aged between 60 and 80 years, divided into four groups: Elderly people with osteosarcopenia and obesity; Elderly people with osteosarcopenia and eutrophic; Elderly people without osteosarcopenia and obesity; Elderly people without osteosarcopenia and eutrophic. The degree of methylation of the chemokine receptor genes CCR2, CCR5, CX3CR1 and the transcriptional coactivator ARID5B as well as the expression of these genes will be evaluated; NLRP3 and NLRP1 inflammasomes (and associated interleukins), monocyte subtypes (classical, intermediate and non-classical) and circulating levels of adipokines (leptin, adiponectin and resistin) and cytokines with pro- (IL-6 and TNF-alpha) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) profiles, which are linked to obesity and may be associated with osteosarcopenia, will also be assessed; in addition, an interaction analysis of the gene pathways will be performed.
