Lipid transport in the intestine
Description: We will be studying two proteins that are present in the small intestine and that have roles in the uptake and metabolism of dietary lipid, fatty acid-binding protein 1 (FABP1) and fatty acid-binding protein 2 (FABP2). Both FABPs bind fatty acids and endocannabinoids, and we will be identifying other important binding partners for these proteins, as well exploring as their actions in regulating whole body energy metabolism. These studies will provide new understanding of the relationships between intestinal lipids derived from the diet, and their metabolites, with body weight and body fat.t.
