Environmental Epigenomics and Precision Environmental Health
Description: Project Narrative It is increasingly recognized that exposures to toxicants affect health and disease by not only mutating genes, but also by modifying the epigenome, alterations to DNA that are heritable and lead to disease when deregulated. Our research will advance the understanding of the effects of perinatal exposures (e.g. metals such as lead and endocrine disrupting chemicals such as phthalates) on the epigenome and health risks as well as develop new tools, based on the PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) system to transform precision environmental health.
