Longitudinal Neurometabolic Outcomes of Traumatic Stress-Related Accelerated Cellular Aging

Description: Premature onset of age-related diseases and neurocognitive decline are a major public health concern as these conditions substantially decrease the number of years an individual is well and able to contribute to society; they simultaneously lead to more years of high-cost healthcare. This longitudinal study of at-risk older adults will identify easily-acquired peripheral biomarkers and genetic variants that serve as prognostic indicators of later brain health (as indicated by brain neurochemistry and neurocognitive assessment). This will allow for new targeted interventions to slow the pace of cellular aging, improve health, reduce the broader burden of disease, and increase human lifespan.
