Pre-clinical efficacy of a selective p38MAPK inhibitor in a model of comorbid Alzheimer/vascular pathology

Description: NARRATIVE Alzheimer’s disease pathology and cerebrovascular pathology are frequently found together in the brains of older people, and vascular damage increases the risk of dementia, but little is known about how these two pathologies interact and drive disease progression. Our project will use novel mouse models and a unique CNS-active drug candidate to test the idea that dysregulated inflammation in the brain, driven by the stress kinase p38aMAPK, worsens the pathological and cognitive outcomes and can be targeted for therapeutic intervention. These mechanistic/ translational studies are a key first step to understanding how to someday prevent or treat these prevalent CNS diseases that afflict a growing number of elderly individuals.
