Towards Precision Nutrition for Alzheimer's Dementia Prevention: A Prospective Study of Dietary Patterns, the Gut Microbiome and Cognitive Function

Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Approximately 10% of U.S. adults aged 65+ has Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This project seeks to identify taxonomic and function features of the gut microbiome and fecal metabolites of microbial origin that explain inter-individual differences in the associations of healthy dietary patterns with cognitive function and risk of Alzheimer’s dementia in three studies of ~1,5000 participants. Based on the unique resources, the proposed research will provide foundational knowledge for maximizing the benefits of dietary approaches, discovering novel biomarkers, and ultimately contributing to precision dietary prevention of Alzheimer's dementia.
