Age-equivalent neurons from MCI patients to investigate early determinants of AD
Description: NARRATIVE The project by Dr. Mertens and colleagues aims at deciphering the interface of age-related pathways and genetic risk for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) using patient-specific induced neurons (iNs). The team will study the underlying molecular structures of MCI using unbiased multi-omic approaches in MCI and AD patient-derived iNs, and compare them to healthily aging control iNs. They will further employ targeted experiments to study the role of neuronal functionality as a convergence platform for aging and disease, and they will leverage insights from their multi-layered characterizations to explore novel approaches to treat MCI and AD.
