SF Bay Area MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study
Description: Project Narrative The MACS and WIHS are major studies of the progression of HIV infection in men and women who are representative of the epidemic (e.g., racially and ethnically diverse, variable degrees of engagement in care) in the United States. The goal of the newly merged cohort is to study the “health span” of people living with HIV now. The relevance of the proposed research would be to contribute fundamental knowledge on the impact of factors (i.e., sex, race and ethnicity, somatic and gonadal aging, psychosocial, genetic) on HIV progression and risk for comorbid conditions (i.e., cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurocognitive impairment, and lung, kidney, liver and physical function changes).
