Impact of Per/Polyfluoroalkyl pollutants on vascular disease mechanisms

Description: Project narrative Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are manmade pollutant chemicals that are extensively used in consumer products. PFAS have contaminated our food and water supplies, bio-accumulate in human tissues, and have been linked to several health hazards including the cardiovascular system. This proposal will investigate mechanisms by which PFAS toxicants disrupt endothelial homeostasis and cause vascular disease, which represents a topic of high public health significance affecting nearly every individual living in the United States.
