Lands cycle and skeletal muscle insulin action
Description: Project Narrative Skeletal muscle insulin resistance accounts for ~90% of the reduction in insulin-stimulated glucose clearance in type 2 diabetic individuals. Alteration in lipid metabolism has been implicated for the pathogenesis of muscle insulin resistance, but the exact identify of the lipid-mediated mechanism that suppresses muscle insulin action in humans remains inconclusive. In this proposal, the role of lyso-phospholipids on skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity will be investigated.
