Cognition and society: Daniela Weber´s research stay at Karolinska Institutet

Description: We are now initiating three research projects: one focusing on the relative importance of cognition and personality factors for academic performance and labor market success in later life; one investigating the plasticity of gender differences in cognition over the century, and one making regional comparisons of gender differences in episodic memory. All three of them will involve large-scale population-level data containing measures of cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, with longitudinal follow-ups of the study participants over several decades, including regional comparisons. These activities would significantly benefit from the addition of an experienced researcher, such as Daniela Weber, with a background in demographic methods applied to research questions involving education, occupation, specific measures of cognitive performance, and personality indicators. Dr. Weber’s extensive expertise in complex modeling techniques for longitudinal data, as well as her internationally-recognized research on questions connecting cognition, age, and societal change, make her a much desired team member for our group. Because the research outlined above is made possible as a result of collaboration between our group at Karolinska Institutet and research groups at Stockholm University, the temporary recruitment of Daniela Weber will help develop those partnerships further and will also be beneficial to a wider Swedish research community. Furthermore, her stay here would strengthen the exchange and collaboration with internationally renowned research centers such as the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.
