Ocular imaging biomarkers for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Description: Background: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder among children. Reliable biomarkers can reduce difficulties of diagnosing ADHD.
Hypothesis to be tested:Quantitative metrics derived from optical coherence tomography (OCT) and digital retinal photographs have the great potential to serve as biomarkers for ADHD and its prognosis.
Design and subjects:This is a longitudinal population-based study for 3 years follow-up. A total of 2,000 children, including 500 ADHD children and 1500 normal children will be included and follow up 3 years.
Instruments:All the participants will be performed comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and OCT-A examination with a swept-source OCT. The retinal and choroidal metrics from OCT and retinal photographs are quantified by the fully automated imaging analysis systems.
Main outcome measures: The differences and longitudinal changes of retinal and choroidal parameters between ADHD and normal children.
Data analysis and expected results: Statistical analysis is performed using SPSS software. We expect that quantitative metrics from OCT and retinal photographs are significant differences in ADHD and normal children.
