GLUT1-dependent glycolysis regulates age-susceptible lung fibrosis
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rapidly progressive, fatal lung disease that is more prevalent in the aging population. Glycolysis plays an important role in lung fibrogenesis and glucose transporter1 (GLUT1), the major glucose transporter in the lung, seems to regulate lung fibrosis. In this project we aim to investigate the mechanism by which GLUT1-dependent glycolysis mediates lung fibrogenesis, with the ultimate goal of supporting the development of therapies for IPF based on targeting GLUT1 and/or its upstream/downstream regulators.
