Cellular and Tissue Rejuvenation through Transcriptional Reprogramming

Description: A fundamentally new approach to the treatment and prevention of age-related diseases is to target the root cause of aging. Under this new paradigm, rejuvenation of aging human tissues and organs represents a promising and exciting direction. Previously we identified 4 transcription factors that can rejuvenate human fibroblast cells aged in vitro through continuous passaging. This project proposes to test the rejuvenating effect of these factors in human fibroblast cells aged inside human body, and in mouse liver. New technologies will be developed to systematically identify combinations of transcription factors for rejuvenation. The proposed research will set a unique stage for discovering combinations of small molecule drugs for rejuvenation therapy.
