Influence of protein malnutrition in the elderly on the immunomodulatory aspects of mesenchymal stromal cells and their action in the regulation of hematopoiesis
Description: Hematopoiesis occurs in the bone marrow (BM) in regions called microenvironments, which modulate the processes of differentiation, proliferation and self-renewal of the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC). In recent years, the literature has given attention to the role of cells that comprise and form these microenvironments, especially the mesenchymal stromal cell. Additionally, elderly people usually suffer from some degree of nutritional deficiency, the most common being protein deficiency and aging and protein malnutrition are directly related to the impairment of hematopoiesis. Knowing that, and based on previous data that prove that aging and protein malnutrition compromise hematopoiesis, and that bone marrow microenvironment presents different modulators that act synergistically to influence the survival, proliferation and development of hematopoietic cells at all levels of differentiation, this project aims to evaluate some regulatory aspects of hematopoiesis, prioritizing the study of the mechanisms involved in the participation of mesenchymal stromal cells and evaluating aspects of the complex stromal regulation on hematopoiesis.
