Translational Science of Gastrointestinal Cancer Initiation and Progression
Description: Project Narrative Two of the most prominent cancers of the GI tract in the U.S. are colorectal cancer (CRC) and esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC): CRC is the second leading cause of cancer deaths, and EAC has been the fastest increasing cause of cancer deaths over the past four decades. There is clearly unmet need for effective cancer prevention and early detection for CRC and EAC. This award will provide support for an exceptional translational cancer research scientist, Dr. Yu, to perform studies that will advance our understanding of molecular alterations in the initiation and progression of GI cancers, and accelerate the development of biomarkers for cancer prevention and early detection.
