Mitigation of Radiation Injury via Vascular Regeneration and Remodeling

Description: The UCLA-CMCR has an effective infrastructure for the discovery and development of novel mitigators of acute radiation syndromes (ARS); both hematological (H-ARS) and intestinal (GI- ARS), later radiation pneumonitis and lung fibrosis, and the delayed effects of acute radiation exposure (DEARE) that result in multiple organ disease (MOD) and shorten life span. We have identified numerous mitigators of radiation syndromes and several have been optimized and entered further development. Here, we focus on our existing agents that target highly conserved, developmental signaling pathways and have broad activity against radiation damage to multiple tissues, and explore the potential of these pathways to provide new agents and targets for mitigation of radiation damage.
