Filifactor alocis interactions with neutrophils
Description: Project Narrative Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease induced by oral pathogenic bacteria that affects ~50% of the adults in the United States. Oral health status is maintained by the presence of white blood cells which are involved in killing the oral bacteria that cause periodontitis. In the current study we propose to define how a newly appreciated bacterium manages to avoid being killed by the white blood cells; with the intention of filling a significant gap in the understanding of which factors contribute to periodontal disease.
