Regulation of macrophage metabolism in aged muscle during recovery
Description: Narrative Poor muscle recovery following disuse is frequent amongst older adults leading to low muscle mass, weakness and increased disability. We have proposed to test specific mechanisms of a disrupted macrophage metabolic state during recovery from disuse in aged mice and humans. These findings will produce new knowledge of macrophage metabolism that will aid in the development of therapeutic strategies to promote muscle recovery in aged individuals.
