Unravelling Molecular Aspects of Endometrial Aging
Description: Female reproductive performance declines rapidly with advanced maternal age (AMA, >35 years of age). Mothers with AMA are currently making up >20% of the obstetric population in Europe and USA and the trend is constantly increasing. Our studies highlighted the impact of maternal age on uterine environment as a significant contributor to the decline in the artificial fertilization success in older females. Despite the importance of the uterine lining (endometrium) as the site of embryo implantation and nutritional support, the exact mechanisms underlying uterine ageing processes are not fully established. The novelty of the current project is to unravel the molecular architecture of the aging endometrium on single cell resolution, to investigate uterine microenvironment by assessing functionally active microbes, and to model host-microbe interactions for providing the molecular landscape and microenvironemnt of uterus in AMA and to understand the molecular mechanisms behind it.
