A novel, non-dividing yeast model to unravel the interplay between cellular energetics, aging and neurodegenerative diseases.

Description: Aging yeast to understand dementia Yeast cells were successfully modified to continuously express Alzheimer peptides and studied in a non-dividing, but active state using advanced cultivation techniques. This showed that also in yeast, the levels of this peptide incease with age. Further results showed that autophagy, involved in aging and disease, strongly impacts both cellular energetics and survival, independently. This projects adds a valuable novel model system to aging research.
