Methionine Cycle as a Mechanistic Hub for the Hallmarks of Aging

Description: Project Narrative (NIH) We propose the Hallmarks of Aging are mediated and coordinated by the branches of methionine metabolism: the methionine cycle, the transsulfuration pathway and the polyamine/salvage pathway. Nutrient sensing, itself a Hallmark of Aging, strongly impacts methionine metabolism through signaling from the insulin/IGF receptor. We will use novel mutants of the Drosophila insulin receptor to dissect how methionine metabolism integrates the Hallmarks of Aging.
