GameON: Gamified Assessment and Monitoring for Early Onset of Neurological decline
Description: Project summary: The goal of a potential main project is to develop and validate a lifestyle intervention system aimed at enabling older adults at risk of developing a neurodegenerative disease (NDD) to have more agency over their own health. Specifically, the project will establish a digital exercise platform that motivates users for sustained exercise, and monitors movement patterns during exercise, to detect signs of early cognitive or motor dysfunction. This innovation will provide a tool for both increased physical activity and health monitoring. Ultimately, implementation of this technology would allow for at-home monitoring, facilitating early and personalized intervention. The purpose of this pre-project is to build a solid foundation for a Pilot Helse main project. This includes establishing feasibility of the main project goal to ensure the technical and scientific foundation is solid. We will also build a strong, multidisciplinary team with the expertise in cognitive neuroscience, clinical neurology, movement analysis, exergame design, and artificial intelligence, needed for a successful main project. The pre-project will also seek to develop and initially validate a prototype of the exergame system for use in a main project. The concept will be refined and specific biomarkers for the main project will be identified, as well as an outline for the game design and machine learning systems. These activities will position the consortium for designing and planning the main project. The novel combination of exercise, monitoring and machine learning in the proposed solution is highly innovative and addresses the need for increased physical activity and early detection of cognitive and physical decline in an important demographic. The project is a cooperation between public-private sector, with cooperation between Aible AS, the University of Bergen, NTNU, and Haukeland University Hospital (HUS), and with the involvement of patient representatives and municipal sercives.
