Uncovering Prolonged Mitosis as a Fundamental Feature of Aging

Description: Aging is associated with the accumulation of senescent cells, but the triggers of this accumulation remain unclear. This project proposes that prolonged mitosis acts as a novel driver of aging by activating the mitotic stopwatch (USP28/53BP1/p53) pathway. By combining live-cell imaging, omics approaches, and genetic models, this study will identify the causes of mitotic delay, particularly centrosome dysfunction, and determine how prolonged mitosis contributes to senescence, establishing a new link between mitotic defects and aging.
