RNA computational logic to classify and remove senescent cells

Description: Senescent cells cause a variety of age‐related diseases. No therapy exists that can selectively remove them. To achieve selective removal, we will employ a biological computational circuit based on RNA-encoded logic gates that measure microRNAs (RNAs not coding for proteins) inside cells and thereby classify cells as being senescent or not. When classified as senescent, a therapeutic programme will be executed leading to selective removal of these cells. The circuit will be delivered by nanoparticles to liver cells, which also can easily be reached in humans in vivo, indicating the potential for rapid clinical translation and alleviation of disease-caused suffering.
