Endothelial Progenitor Cells and Particulate Air Pollution
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Acute exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution produces oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in young healthy adults and chronic exposures are strongly correlated with the progression of atherosclerosis, increased thrombosis, myocardial infarction, and stroke. In this proposal, we determine if the effects of PM are more pronounced in unhealthy, at risk populations with impaired anti-oxidant capacity and whether these effects can be limited by a simple anti-oxidant intervention.
