Pluripotent stem cell derived cell therapy

Description: Pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-based therapies hold transformative potential for regenerative medicine, offering long-lasting and possibly curative treatments for a range of diseases. While early clinical trials demonstrate encouraging outcomes, realizing the full impact of PSC-derived therapies requires overcoming significant technological and translational barriers along the complete pipeline. We propose the creation of an Excellence cluster to accelerate the development, translation, and commercialization of PSC-based therapies, relying on exceptional fundamental and multidisciplinary research. This initiative unites leading experts in stem cell biology, clinical research, bioprocessing, regulatory science, and innovation. The planning phase will define and refine the key research questions and technological innovations needed to address critical bottlenecks in the PSC therapy pipeline—such as sustainable generation of PSC and on-target cell products, scalable manufacturing, and strategies for regulatory approval and market access. With strong foundations in biomedical research and a collaborative, multidisciplinary team spanning five academic institutions, we are uniquely positioned to lead in this field. Our vision is to establish a globally recognized hub for PSC innovation that drives clinical impact, fosters economic growth, attracts strategic investment, and delivers approved cell therapies to patients by 2035.
