Epigenetic dysregulation of transposons in obesity
Description: Project Narrative Obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes and several types of cancer, and therefore places a major burden on the US healthcare system. Our preliminary results indicate that obesity leads to epigenetic modifications, which are known to play a key role in regulating the genome, at particular repetitive regions of the genome. We are investigating how obesity leads to epigenetic modifications at these repetitive regions and the potential to prevent or reverse this through dietary supplementation.
