English Longitudinal Study of Ageing - Renewal 2024

Description: The increase in longevity of the population has stalled in recent years, while socioeconomic inequalities in health and prosperity persist into older ages both in the UK and the USA. The multidisciplinary English Longitudinal Study of Ageing collects longitudinal data from a large population sample to help us understand the determinants and consequences of these issues for quality of life, cognitive impairment including Alzheimer’s Disease, and healthy aging. Repeated measures of health and disability, economic circumstances, social participation, cognitive and physical function, wellbeing, biology and genetics are relevant both to public policy and scientific investigations, and comparisons with the Health and Retirement Study provide insight into the drivers of these processes in the USA and England.
