Induction of autophagy to enhance CAR-T cells in HIV cure approaches
Description: Project Narrative CAR T cells have emerged as a promising cell therapy to enhance anti-HIV immunity and eliminate latently HIV-infected cells when combined with HIV latency reversal in a ‘kick and kill’ cure approach. However, CAR T cells are affected by immune exhaustion and the most effective latency reversal agents are associated with drug side-effects, including generalized immune activation. Our proposed study aims to investigate the mechanisms and therapeutic potential of autophagy inducers to enhance anti-HIV CAR-T cell function while reducing the toxicity of latency reversal agents.
