A Virtually Supervised Web-Based Home Exercise Technology for Older Adults
Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: The purpose of this interdisciplinary study is to design and commercialize a novel web-based home exercise technology that uses virtual reality and wearable sensors to improve strength, balance, agility, and coordination in older adults who are at risk for falling. The proposed technology could offer community-dwelling older adults, in particular those residing in rural areas or those who have transportation challenges, a convenient and cost- effective modality to promote strength and balance. The suggested technology could have an immediate impact on the US health care system by reducing the risk of falling, improving quality of life, and promoting independence among older adults.
