Understanding components of mind-body exercise for physical activity engagement in metabolic syndrome
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Physical inactivity is prevalent, costly, and deadly, particularly among individuals with cardiometabolic conditions. While mind-body exercise interventions (e.g., yoga, tai chi), which include several therapeutic components (e.g., physical exercise, mindful attention), are promising for improving physical activity levels, it is difficult to optimize these interventions for physical activity promotion without understanding the effects of these core components on health behavior change processes. Using metabolic syndrome as a model, this project will assess the feasibility and acceptability of a factorial design that examines the effects of two mind-body exercise components, exercise and mindful attention, on key health behavior change processes.
