Bipartite regulation of cellular osmosensing in C. elegans

Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: Despite tremendous advances in our understanding of many aspects of cell physiology, the mechanisms by which cells sense and maintain cellular solute and water content, or osmoregulation, remains poorly understood. Defect in osmoregulation are associated with a wide variety of age-related diseases, including chronic kidney disease and renal failure, hypertension, peripheral neuropathy. Our studies will define the molecular mechanisms of osmoregulation and provide transformative insights that could change the way we understand, diagnose, and treat age-related solute imbalance disorders.
