Sexual dimorphism of thymic epithelial cells

Description: T lymphocytes are educated in the thymus where they learn to differentiate self (our normal cells) from non-self (infected or neoplastic cells). We have found that sex hormones have a major impact on thymic function. We now wish to understand the mechanistic basis for this sexual dimorphism because it is probably responsible, at least in part, for the well-recognized sex differences in susceptibility to infections and autoimmune diseases.
