Using Single-cell Rna and Protein Approaches to Elucidate Molecular Determinantsand Predictors of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
Description: Narrative Inflammatory bowel diseases are complex intestinal disorders characterized by dysregulation of immune response in genetically susceptible hosts; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms are incompletely understood. Single cell transcriptomic approaches represent an unbiased technique to characterize known cell types and identify novel cell subsets. This proposal aims to define the immunologic cellular heterogeneity in intestinal tissue and blood from ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s ileitis with single cell RNA sequencing and protein identification to identify molecular determinants of disease pathogenesis and to use differences in gene expression in a larger cohort to predict disease status.
