Studies of Global Signal Transduction

Description: Project Narrative The efforts of my research program have been directed at probing the actions of membrane receptors and their G protein signaling partners that influence cell growth, differentiation, and development. These studies have culminated in a series of exciting new discoveries that describe how these signal transduction pathways are linked to the assembly of multi-protein complexes that regulate the metabolic activities of cells and the biogenesis of extracellular vesicles, important in embryonic stem cell function, differentiation, cellular senescence and aging, cancer, and infectious disease. By probing the signaling mechanisms that regulate these metabolic complexes and the biogenesis and function of extracellular vesicles, together with elucidating their structural features, we expect to gain new insights into the critical roles they play in a broad spectrum of biology and disease, as well as highlight new targets and strategies for therapeutic intervention.
