Metabolic control of cell plasticity in embryogenesis and tissue repair

Description: Biologists have long been intrigued by the phenomenon of tissue repair, otherwise known as regeneration. Although we know that tissue repair recapitulates aspects of embryonic development, including changes in cell fate, we have a poor understanding of the molecular pathways responsible. Emerging evidence from our laboratories has identified that metabolic reprogramming plays a key role in regulating cell fate plasticity during embryogenesis and tissue repair. This research aims to use zebrafish as a model system to identify the metabolic dynamics driving changes in cell fate during embryonic development and tissue repair. We anticipate that these studies will reveal fundamental new principles of development and tissue repair.
