Glycolipid-Reactive NKT Cells, Obesity and Insulin Resistance
Description: Obesity and its associated metabolic disorders such as Type 2 diabetes constitute a serious threat to global health. The studies proposed in this grant application will investigate how subset immune cells called Natural Killer T (NKT) cells, which react to lipids and play a critical role in establishing immune and inflammatory responses, become dysfunctional and in turn influence the development of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The results from these proposed studies will be instrumental for the development of novel preventive measures and therapies for obesity and its complications, in particular Type 2 diabetes. Page 1
