Peripheral blood mononuclear cell epigenetic associations in and biomarkers for knee osteoarthritis development and progression

Description: Project Narrative The proposed research is relevant to public health because a better understanding of how peripheral blood immunophenotype changes increase the risk for osteoarthritis (OA) and/or the development of epigenetic-based predictive models for OA clinical care is likely not only to give insights into the causes of OA, but also to give rise to new treatments for OA patients. Thus, this proposal is relevant to the part of the NIH's mission that pertains to fostering fundamental creative discoveries, innovative research strategies, and their applications as a basis for ultimately improving health.
