Significance of APE1 as a Diagnostic and Therapeutic Target Molecule in Onco-Cardiology
Description: There have been no biomarkers and no curative measures for doxorubicin (DOX) cardiotoxicities. We proposed APE1 as a potential target molecule to solve this issue. APE1 is multifunctional, with repairing DNA damage and antioxidative functions. A DOX mouse model demonstrated an enhanced APE1 expression, parallel with progression of cardiac dysfunction dose-dependently to DOX, suggesting a possible role of APE1 as a significant biomarker of DOX cardiotoxicity. APE1 gene transfection reduced myocardial damage in DOX cardiotoxicity model. Advanced experiments on dose-dependency of cardioprotective effects of APE1 has been progressing.
