Next generation cardiac MRI with manganese-based contrast agent
Description: Project summary: IC Targets AS (ICT) aims to redefine cardiac imaging by introducing a next-generation, manganese-based contrast agent, mangafodipir, that allows for the early detection of heart failure (HF). This manganese-based contrast agent represents a significant advancement in cardiac imaging, addressing key limitations of gadolinium-based solutions. The ability to detect early cellular changes in the heart opens new doors for preventive care, improvement of long-term patient outcomes and reduction of healthcare costs. Achieving this vision requires overcoming several major R&D hurdles. This involves demonstration of clear clinical benefits over existing contrast agents, scaling up of manufacturing, and approval from regulatory agencies. Finally, integration into existing imaging workflows will ensure widespread clinical adoption. By addressing these challenges, mangafodipir has the potential to revolutionize cardiac care by enabling earlier, more targeted interventions for millions of people at risk of heart failure. Moreover, its ability to provide clearer insights into heart function could improve drug trials for new cardiac therapies and accelerate the delivery of life-saving treatments worldwide. To fully realize this vision, securing public and private funding is essential. Funding will help finalize development, validate the agent in clinical settings, and accelerate its market launch.
