CROWNING US: Cardiovascular Risk AcrOss the Lifespan with WomeN, INtersex, Gender Diverse and other Under-Served People in Canada

Description: Our vision is to reduce cardiovascular risk in underserved populations in Canada by engaging people with lived and living experience (PWLLE) as partners in research. Patient-oriented research requires a culture in which research is conducted 'with' instead of 'on' communities and PWLLE. This requires a safe and supportive space for collaboration and partnership. We have five objectives: 1) accelerate sex- and gender-specific cardiovascular risk knowledge (i.e., knowledge sharing), 2) increase regional and national community and PWLLE partnerships, 3) create greater readiness for community and PWLLE collaboration, 4) foster new and stronger partnerships that are equitable, diverse, and inclusive, and 5) prioritize cardiovascular risk research priorities identified by women, intersex, gender diverse and under-served people across Canada (i.e., identify new research possibilities). We aim to have communities and PWLLE collaborate in cardiovascular risk research from identifying priorities to presentation and publication. In our recent review, we found very little work focused on community and PWLLE engagement in women's CVD research - it is time to address this glaring 'under' representation and this is the focus of this planning grant. We will use the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Capacity Development Framework, the SPOR Patient Engagement Framework, and the Connecting the Dots Model of Community Engagement to guide our work.
